The Great Art of Walking

Walking is a great art, a symphony of rich complexity and harmony arising out of chaos. Join this series to come into awareness and aliveness with the main way we get around ~

Enliven the body through anatomy investigations and movement practices and play to strengthen balance and harmony in locomotion. The patterns inherent in walking can also be applied to other locomotive options (crouching, rolling, falling, jumping, running, etc). We will focus on the intelligent patterns in Walking to train confidence and readiness for other potential movement experiences we may encounter in life.

In this series we will explore the biomechanics and poetry of the foot, ankle, knee, hip, spine, head/neck, and shoulder,  to understand what is happening when we walk.

Participants will engage in:

– Foot exercises and Mindful walking
– Exploration of the receptive and propulsive systems of the foot to increase sensorimotor control
– Balancing on one leg (shown to be an indicator of lifespan) while challenging the balance systems in different ways
– Training the vestibular system in different planes and moving the spine in different orientations
– Training contralateral rotation of the spine with various movement patterns

Each individual can modify the exercises to eliminate or add challenges for whatever the needs are.

All ages and life stages are welcome.

13-week series.
