Balance and Fall Prevention

Learn exercises for strengthening the 3 main systems of the body responsible for balance AND learn tools for what to do in the event of a fall ~

Practices will include:
– Foot and toe strengthening exercises
– Mindful walking
– Exploration of the receptive and propulsive systems of the foot to increase sensorimotor control
– Balancing on one leg (shown to be an indicator of lifespan) while challenging the balance systems in different ways
– Training the vestibular system in different planes by tipping the head and moving the spine in different orientations
– Tapping and stimulating mechanoreceptors
– Training contralateral rotation of the spine with various movement patterns
– Training spiralling, ramping pathways to make getting up and down easy and efficient
There will be chairs and barres for support.
Each individual can modify the exercises to eliminate or add challenges for whatever the needs are.
